Experience

2022- 2024

UNIVERSITY PROGRAM
MANAGEMENT

At PSU, I initially joined as Program Support for the inaugural year of the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI). My responsibilities included aiding in the development and implementation of the program, coordinating logistics, supporting students, and ensuring the seamless execution of all program activities. These contributions were instrumental in establishing a robust foundation for the program’s ongoing success.

Shortly afterward, I was hired to manage and oversee the daily operations of the department’s graduate programs. In this role, I managed admissions processes, coordinated academic support, and ensured compliance with institutional policies. I provided essential guidance in an advisory role to both prospective and current students, assisting them in navigating academic requirements and application procedures, thereby enhancing their overall educational experience. Additionally, I represented the department at networking events, actively participated in recruitment efforts, and coordinated the hiring of key faculty for the department's various programs.

During my tenure, I successfully guided the graduate programs through a significant transitional period. My efforts in streamlining operations, fostering cross-departmental collaboration, and upholding high standards of student support were pivotal to the department's operational efficiency and long-term success.

Full-time

•  Hired on contract to help establish the inaugural YSEALI program at PSU. My exceptional performance later led to an offer for a full-time position as the department's Graduate Programs Manager.

2020- 2022

INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM COORDINATION

During my tenure at the American English Institute (AEI), I played a pivotal role in adapting our educational programs to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Leading the transition from traditional in-person classes to dynamic digital platforms, I ensured that the quality and continuity of our programs remained uncompromised. By leveraging a range of virtual learning tools and methods, I successfully maintained high engagement levels among students and preserved the Institute's commitment to excellence in language education despite unprecedented disruptions.

In response to the Institute’s need for versatile leadership amid staff reductions, I embraced a variety of operational roles that extended beyond my primary responsibilities. I coordinated events, managed digital marketing campaigns, and provided comprehensive student services to support AEI's diverse student body. These efforts not only helped sustain the Institute's day-to-day operations but also enhanced our community's resilience and adaptability during a period of significant uncertainty. My multi-faceted involvement contributed to a cohesive and supportive environment that prioritized the well-being and success of our students.

My experience at AEI underscored the importance of flexibility and innovation in educational management. By taking on diverse roles and spearheading critical initiatives, I gained invaluable insights into the complexities of program administration and digital transformation. This period of my career highlighted my ability to drive strategic change and deliver effective solutions under pressure, reinforcing my dedication to advancing educational opportunities and supporting student achievement in evolving contexts.

Hourly / Full-time

•  Initially hired as a part-time student worker to support AEI's events and outreach team, my role expanded significantly when the pandemic led to downsizing. Recognizing my digital marketing expertise, AEI entrusted me with multiple responsibilities, including outreach management, event coordination, social media management, and web development.

2018-2020

DIGITAL MARKETING

EVENT PROMOTION / COORDINATION

Crafted the online presence and digital communication of multiple institutions, such as the northwest’s largest outdoor competitive event company Breakaway Promotions and Japan’s outdoor gear and apparel company Montbell.

My duties included creating and enhancing corporate image, branding, social media, and digital outreach. This was accomplished by making use of analytical data to identify key audiences and their demographics, setting high standards and performance goals, and tracking those performance metrics. My primary strengths come from my knowledge of marketing methods and my understanding of how to successfully develop a brand and plan the growth of its content. I am also experienced in digital design and content creation, including company branding, graphics, print media and occasionally photography and videography. (examples)

I also have a background in team leading and event management. My responsibilities included delegating the companies media workload, location planning for where all media staff would need to be stationed during event days, and acting as the direct line of communication and advising for all matters between the event coordinators and media team members.

Contracted / Full-time

•  Annually contracted with outdoor sport event companies such as Nike, Montbell, and Breakaway Promotions. (see project page for work samples)

2016 - 2018

WORKING ABROAD

EVENT COORDINATION

Montbell Co. Ltd. was established in Osaka, Japan with one goal in mind: produce high quality outdoor equipment. Since then the company has expanded its services and reach, covering much of Europe, Switzerland, and most recently the United States. With this expansion, Montbell was eager to raise awareness about their brand and products and wanted to do so by recreating their well established outdoor event series: Sea to Summit. These events separate Montbell from its competitors by demonstrating their commitment to outdoor exploration and adventure for all.

Having experience and connections within the outdoor event community, I was contracted to help Montbell create its first America-based events right here in Oregon. Duties included event promotion, the creation of branding and working as an intermediary between Montbell Japan, the event hosting companies, as well as various vendors, sponsors, travel agencies and local governments. I served as their marketing lead for the company as we developed new outdoor events hosted by Montbell and also worked to find new ways to involve Montbell within local communities and already established events.

As a result of our success in this area, Montbell later recruited me to be a part of their marketing team at the corporate office in Japan, where I learned about the various distinctions between American and Japanese marketing methods, as well as the importance Montbell placed on community and service. My time abroad allowed me to observe the differences and similarities of intercultural markets. This experience also honed my ability to create marketing content that would better relate the Montbell corporation to an American audience. This international experience equipped me with the skills to cooperate in a cross-cultural context and adapt to the environments with a variety of languages, cultures and workflows.

Contracted / Full-time

•   Hired as an intermediate between Montbell and various American companies to help plan and promote Montbell and their American event series.

2015 - Current

INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS

I am a first generation student who has attended several different universities over the course of my studies, and in this process I have become extremely well versed on how to get the most out of the college experience. Although it may be too late for me to take advantage of much of this, I wish to share the knowledge I have acquired with students, especially those who might struggle within this system such as diverse international students. My experience abroad coupled with my understanding of all the difficulties that can come from unfamiliar and new environments has given me a unique skill set that can provide a benefit to international students.

I believe I have a responsibility to repay the kindness so many people showed me during my time abroad. As a result, you can often find me in my spare time working or volunteering at local international institutions. I have been involved in Oregon State University’s INTO where I supervised part of their Special Programs department. Most recently I served as the activities and marketing coordinator at the American English Institute, a partnered branch of the University of Oregon. I also annually volunteer at Oregon’s Willamette University’s Tokyo International University of America (TIUA), Chemeketa and Lane Community Colleges’ International Departments as well as at Concordia University in eastern Portland.

Over the years, I have also founded local meetup groups and conversation circles to help create fun and informal ways for domestic and international students to meet, make friends, and learn from one another.

Past partnerships include:
